Stockport ‘Secret’ Street Party
Last weekend saw the streets of our Stockport bustling with the kind of activity we could’ve only dreamed of just a few years ago!
The sun was shining on the stall-lined streets of Stockport Old Town, creating the best backdrop for an afternoon bevvy with friends and family. It was certainly a Stockport event to remember, so we’ve decided to highlight some of the best bits from the weekend in case you were unfortunate enough to miss it - in the hope you won’t make the same mistake twice!
Each of Stockport’s finest independent traders (including us of course) came out in all their glory for the event with unique finds, special offers, complimentary booze and in-store music acts. To name but a few of our favs... Emiko Studios, Old Town General Store, 20th Century Stores, The Warren and Plant Shop. There was also newcomer Never Make Waste making their street party debut!
When it came to food we were also spoilt for choice, with the eateries of independent Stockport delivering on every front. We had special small plates from Yellowhammer, the finest coffee and cake from Hillgate Cakery and so much flavour from The Mekong Cat, amongst a load more scran-delivering indies.
One of the things that set this weekend apart from all others was the array of entertainment and cultural offerings. Underbank Studios, Grit Studios and other artists were providing arts workshops including paper making, clay throwing and collaging. SK1 Records were also pumping out an excellent array of bangers whilst we all got crafty - what a town of proper makers and shakers!
Finally, and it’s possibly what Stockport does best... boozing! We are an absolute treasure trove of Stockport bars and pubs meaning you were never far from a good watering hole. There were the usual favs such as The Spinn Off, Yellowhammer, The Queens Head and WineBoy serving natural wines, proper ales and fancy cocktails. But on top of that we had a few newcomers making their debut, such as Bohemian Arts Club, newly opened on Cooper’s Brow serving top notch contemporary cocktails and keeping us all classy. We even tried our hand at being a boozer, selling cold cans of Neptune Brewery beer straight from our little under counter fridge!
It’s no secret now that Stockport knows how to throw a street party bustling with community vibes, and we were all certainly very proud to be calling ourselves Stopfordian that weekend. We’re counting down the days til the next one 🍸
