Small handmade bud vase, thrown and trimmed on the potters wheel then brushed with white clay slip to create a textured surface. The pot has then been lightly brushed with a dark, high iron glaze before being dipped in white glaze. Once fired this layering reveals rust coloured accents where the slip is raised.

This type of vase is a great way to add interest and draw your eye without taking up too much space. The soft shape and narrow base feels calm and balanced. The style is suited to a variety of interiors and would make a unique addition to a table or desk with a couple of dried or fresh cut flowers popped in.

How it’s made

I’m a small batch potter starting out from my basement studio at home in Stockport. Each piece is hand-thrown and then turned on my potters wheel to their final form over roughly 2 days (depending on the season). When completely dry they’re carefully transported to my nearby studio and ‘bisque’ fired in an electric kiln to 1000 degrees. Once glazed a second and final firing to 1250 degrees completes the process.

Dimensions

Dimensions are approximately 11cm tall, 8.5cm wide, 1.5cm opening (inside) and 3cm rim.
