Wheel thrown ceramic salt pig (cellar) in a natural grey-blue glaze with a dark chocolate interior. The outside finish has a beautiful mottled effect from layering two glazes which also creates a subtle green fleck and copper detail in parts. Inside, the dark tenmoku glaze creates an eye catching contrast against the salt crystals.
The pleasing round form makes an attractive feature on any kitchen counter. A collared neck allows you to pinch and spoon when seasoning without the salt spilling out. It’s also a generous size; pictured with over 100g of salt.
How it’s made
Each piece is made with great care and in small batches. Hand-thrown and then trimmed on my potters wheel to their final form over roughly 2 days. Once completely dry I carefully transport to a nearby studio and ‘bisque’ fire to 1000 degrees in an electric kiln. Once glazed a second and final firing to 1250 degrees completes the process.
Care Instructions
My pots are made from stoneware clay and are food safe. They can go in a microwave and dishwasher, however washing by hand is recommended to reduce wear and breakages.
Size
Dimensions are approximately 9.5cm tall, 10cm wide with a 8.5 - 9cm opening at the rim. Capacity is roughly 100 - 150g.
Please note
The list price is per salt pig and does not include a spoon. The item(s) depicted may not be the one you receive. Every piece is unique, therefore slight differences in glaze and sizing are part of the hand made process. This is what makes each piece one of a kind.
